Guess, I wanted to write on a light topic. Despite many topics striking my mind, what finally settles is 'people and relations'. So ok.. I just thought I could maybe blabber something about work-life balance.
For quite some time since I joined TCS, I didn't know that personal and professional life are different. No one seems to tell this explicitly, as the 'learned' people treasure this as a secret.
It all started like this. Well, people were good friends of mine during the cup of tea but spoke against during a team meet. Think I may not have to explain any further.
Must admit, I felt betrayed. That was when I started to find out why people exhibited this dual behavior.
I spoke with a friend of mine who said two things that seemed logical and true. First, all are driven by money and so ratings. And so not all choose to be natural when it comes to professional matters that could have a say on their ratings. Two, not all are ready to mix personal relations with professional ones.
Though I understood this truth that we got to be impassionate when it comes to professional issues, I had this inner spark initiating me to set up an organization that would have a process that ensures that people's actual talents are rewarded and passion for work is appreciated.
My learnings are.. One has got to be objective and need to be bothered by one's own targets only. Personally, you may hate a person, but that should not reflect on the professional part. If one starts thinking in this way, then maybe, most of the problems relating to work could be solved. One would start getting the actual reward as against his effort. By reward, I mean both monetary and non-monetary.
Give a deeper thought.

true that personal and professional life have to be different. it is better that way for both the individual and the organization.you can't afford to be generous or thoughtful enough in a cut throat environment. you need'nt be good enough to help others with your valuable advice or concern as it wouldn't make them sit up and look at you as a well wisher , or return you a favour by giving you timely advice. but i would suggest that you could perhaps be a part of a group whose members you are comfortable with . you can share your views, concerns , with them and develop a good relationship such that you can fall back on them for sincere advice. because you can't go long being a self centered recluse .
Its tough Mary. You cant find many who are actually ready to give you professional advice. I have tried. But have burnt fingers many often. Deceit and the fact that deceit is not a crime is not even shocking for many. And so I had decided to enjoy work all alone and ensure some organizational objectives are met. I am very appreciative of your views, sure.
